What are the top mistakes that you made when you started blogging?

I have 5 mistakes i made when i first started blogging. Please don’t make them. This blog may be new but it’s not my only one. I have been blogging for about a 1 year now on my other blog, iGoTheBeat.

So trust me, I know a thing or two about blogging.

1. Never ever buy traffic!

This is a bad idea because, yes your ranks will go up when things like IZEA Real Rank are counting your vistors but you will soon find out that once they are gone that all your ranks will drastically drop! Buying traffic = NO!

2. Don’t try to immediatley monetize your blog.

You have to build readers first and actually get people looking and linking back to your blog. Now you have to return the favor and post links on your site.  Someone has to actually pay attention and take notice first. People can tell if your just in it for the money.

3. Don’t just post videos and pictures, actually write something.

On the internet, content is king! I am not saying you have to write an essay, but write something. This is how you get search engines to pick up your site. If they have no words to optimize, how the hell are they going to do it? Make sure you add content! Always!

4. Don’t be a lazy blogger.

Try and add content at least 3 times a week if not more often. Am i saying you have to add 15 million post in one day? No. But depending on what your blog is about , try to keep your readers updated as often as possible. Interact with your readers as much as possible.

5. Treat your RSS feed like its your lifeline. Do NOT neglect it!

Always make sure you treat your rss feed with care and post it and submit it to as many places as possible. Know why? Because it allows people to take your blog anywhere! That’s why! You can be a millions of places on the net at once!

So there you have it. Those are the mistakes that i made that i hope people can learn from.

Feel free to share and send in your mistakes so that we can all grow and learn from them. Send in that content! What are you waiting for? This is practically free linkbacks man!

i've been good on 1 - 4 so far. 5, eh, could be better but i been hustling it lol.

i would add two things for the effective readability of the blog

    6. Formatting
Use breaks, spacing, paragraphs, colors, font sizes, weights (bold vs normal), and italics. Too many times, I see posts full of content in ONE paragraph. You've got to give the readers' eyes a break as they read.

    7. Use pictures and video sparingly.
Of course this is an offshoot of your #3. I think a post should have some illustration. It doesn't need a lot. But, it helps if people can see an image and relate for more effectively.

    8. Colors (2 part lol)
    a. Some people have colors that they love. But, they don't understand that those colors don't come off nice from a light emitting screen as opposed to light reflecting clothing. Strong contrasting colors are difficult on the eyes and cause fatigue quickly.

    b. Too many crazy colors is just tacky and annoying.

All of these things really have to do with giving the reader's eyes a break as they read so they can spend more time on your page. There's nothing worse than seeing a page whose colors give me a headache. Or, the length of the post is one monolithic paragraph. You see something like that and you don't even want to bother. And, some pictorial posts are good. But if your blog posts consist of videos and pictures and then one or two sentences, you're probably just regurgitating some shit you saw elsewhere.
